Agra

This ancient city has wonderful monuments making you awestruck by the sheer brilliance behind the construction. The most famous attraction of Agra is the incredible Taj Mahal, a mausoleum which is a symbol of eternal love. An architectural wonder, Taj Mahal is carved in white marble. Each of the structure of this monument has its own unique beauty. Taj Mahal, Agra Red Fort, Angoori Bagh, Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah are main places to visit.

 

Fatehpur Sikri

A unique blend of architectural excellence, as well as religious beliefs – sums up Fatehpur Sikri. A city made of red sandstone. The palaces found here reflect the architectural brilliance of the bygone era. Now a UNESCO world heritage site, it is home to Jodha Bai’s Palace, Jama Mosque, Buland Darwaza, Deewan-i-aam, Deewan-i-khas, Khwabgah,Panch Mahal and Tomb of Salim Chisti among many other famous monuments. An Indo-Islamic Masterpiece, Fatehpur Sikri looks magical and splendid, especially during the sunset.

Varanasi

World’s oldest living city, Varanasi – also known as Kashi and Benaras, is the spiritual capital of India. It is one of Hinduism’s seven holy cities. Haunt of Shiva devotees and home to some bizarrely-dressed sadhus, Varanasi is an absolutely a must visit place in Uttar Pradesh. Celebrated author Mark Twain, described the city as “older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend.”  Varanasi lies on the banks of the river Ganges, which adds magic to the atmosphere. While you would find temples at almost every turn in the city, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, is the most visited and the oldest of all. Ganga Aarti is an important ritual held on a grand scale every morning and evening on the banks of the holy Ganges. The ceremony of immense grandeur and spiritual enlightenment, the Ganga Aarti is a must-experience when in Varanasi. The numerous ghats along the bank of the Ganges present a varied scene from dawn to dusk. Benarasi mithais (sweets) and the famous Benarasi paan (betel leaf) are two specialties that can be found in this magical city. Don’t miss out on the hot chaat and cool lassi. It’s also a centre of silk weaving, so practise haggling at the chaotic bazaar for some beautiful souvenirs. The festive magic never ends in Varanasi. One does not require making his itinerary according to the dates and months of the festivals. One can come and enjoy the festive season anytime of the year here.

Mathura

 

One of Hinduism’s seven sacred cities, Mathura is the birthplace of the very beloved Lord Krishna. Shri Krishna Janmabhumi is the most famous tourist attraction in Mathura, as this place is believed to the be the exact place where Lord Krishna was born. Right from the moment you set foot in the mesmerising city, you will feel a sense of peace. The two most important temples in town are the Dwarkadheesh Temple and the Gita Mandir. Similar to the Ganga Aarti in Varanasi, the Yamuna Aarti is one of the highlights of Mathura.  The aarti is not just a divine ritual but an aesthetic pleasure and a unique experience for traveller witnessing it for the first time.  Mathura also has a delicious history of street food. Sweet made of milk and sugar known as ‘Pede’ is famous in Mathura. Holi and Janmashtami are the most popular festivals celebrated here. A vibrant exhibition of colours, the city has something to for everyone, attracting tourists and pilgrims both.

Vrindavan 

Mcleodganj is a beautiful town situated near upper Dharamsala. It is famous for being home to the world-renowned Tibetan spiritual leader the 14th Dalai Lama. For people wishing to learn meditation and Buddhism, adventure seekers who want to trek in the Himalayas, Mcleodganj is the perfect destination. It is a spiritual place, mostly Buddhist in nature.Vrindavan is considered to be one of the most important places of pilgrimage for the devotees of Krishna. It is said that Lord Krishna had spent his childhood in Vrindavan. The vibrant surroundings perfectly depict the playful and benevolent nature of Lord Krishna. Located along the waters of River Yamuna, the numerous temples set amidst the thick woods and lush greenery of Vrindavan are the major attractions here. A visit to this holy place is nothing more than a magical experience with a perfect blend of spirituality and self-peace. Vrindavan’s holy is world-famous which has the unique charm that makes it different from that of other parts of the country.

 

Ayodhya 

Ayodhya plays an important role in the Hindu epic of Ramayana as it is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama and one of the seven most important pilgrimage sites called Saptapuri. Major tourist attractions include Hanuman Garhi Fort, Ramkot, Nageshwarnath Temple, Chakravarti Maharaj Dashrath Mahal, Darbarji Durgakali Temple, Sita ki Rasoi, Ram ki Paidi, Mani Parbat, Treta Ke Thakur and many more

Allahabad

Famed for its Sangam (confluence of rivers) and the Kumbh Mela, Allahabad is an important tourism destination in Uttar Pradesh. The city has been an important part of Indian history. This ancient city, also called as Prayag, witnesses one of the largest gatherings of religious nature during Kumbh Mela once every 12 years. Other popular places to visit in Allahabad include the Anand Bhavan, All Saints Cathedral, Chandra Shekhar Azad Park, and Allahabad Museum. Biryani, Kebab and Gari ki Barfi are must-try delicacies of the city.
